Environmental Consciousness

As Australia's leading bedding manufacturer, Sealy recognizes the importance of environmental sustainability and takes seriously their responsibility for good stewardship in this effort. Sealy provide high-quality, durable sleep sets that provide our customers with the highest levels of comfort and support.

Our goal is to reach an acceptable balance between sustainability and product quality, performance and durability, based upon the practical application of the most advanced technologies available.

Here are the steps that Sealy has taken to improve the environmental sustainability of our products:

Natural & Sustainable

Resources that are sustainable, can be grown or harvested without lasting impact on the environment or that leave a small carbon foot print can be classified as environmentally sensitive. In Sealy Posturepedic beds, these materials include:

  • Only Plantation Timber is used in the manufacture of the Sealy foundations
  • Sealy uses only natural latex and not synthetic latex derived from petro-chemicals.
  • Fabric covers are made with a high Viscose content - viscose is a cellulose fibre derived from timber sources with a soft touch and excellent moisture management properties.

Recyclable

A significant portion of a Sealy Posturepedic bed can be recycled, with components having a useful life even after they no longer serve in a bed:

  • The steel in the support system and foundation modules are 100% recyclable
  • The timber frames can be extracted and re-used
  • Foam layers can be recycled into carpet underlay and other crumb foam

In fact, the only components that can't be recycled in a Sealy Posturepedic, are latex, the UniCased polyethylene and some of the small accessories such as castors.

Recycled

Sealy uses only a small amount of recycled materials in the manufacture of beds. The highest quality steel is used for our innersprings, so only the mandatory amount is recycled steel, approx. 10%.

The Durabond insulator pad also uses recycled textiles, however, these are not reclaimed from used materials for hygiene reasons. They contain textile offcuts that would otherwise be disposed of.

Reduced Carbon Footprint

Sealy achieves efficiencies that reduce product miles with local Components manufacturing and sourcing Australian made raw materials where possible. Spring units are made in Brisbane and are upholstered in one of five bedding plants around Australia, made to order. A stringent waste-reduction process ensures that Sealy's resources are managed efficiently.
