SEALY'S SUSTAINABILITY POLICY

Improving sleep
for future generations

As an industry leader, Sealy Posturepedic have an important part to play in ethical manufacturing and environmental sustainability. Read on to learn how we recycle, minimise waste and commit to quality.

Sealy's 10-year guarantee

Investing in quality
and durability

Here at Sealy, we believe that sustainability begins with quality. We ensure that our products are built to last, using rigorously tested materials. Every mattress or bed base is backed by our 10-year guarantee. In addition, we are passionate about providing Australians with beds that are made to order from locally based facilities. We use only the space that is needed, avoiding import logistics or long-term storage.

LOCAL MANUFACTURING AND RESOURCES

Sustainable sourcing

We partner with Australian suppliers who are appropriately certified and environmentally responsible. The wire mills operate within an international Environmental Management Standard (ISO 14001), while our foam products are tested to international standards and backed by the Good Environmental Choice Australia program.

Similarly, our timber is sourced from sustainable plantations that are endorsed by the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) or the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC). We also strive to include natural materials, such as bamboo and wool, wherever possible.

SUSTAINABLE MANUFACTURING

How we recycle our materials

Discover how we reuse, recycle and dispose of our materials during the manufacturing process.

How we recycle

Wire and steel scrap

The Sealy springs factory sends over 100 tonnes of steel scrap to our recycling partners per year. We send all wire and coil waste for recycling; the only exception is where it is has been contaminated with other materials during mattress and base construction.

How we recycle

Wood and timber

Our timber is repurposed across component production and transport as much as possible. The remainder is sent back to the manufacturer for reuse. In a year, we recycle approximately 35 tonnes of timber across the country.

How we recycle

Quilt and materials

This waste is comprised of fabric offcuts and any rejected panels from the quilt process. Over 200 tonnes are returned to the fibre plant every year, repurposed into felt pads that are used in every mattress. In Victoria, quilted waste is recycled externally for carpet underlay components.

How we recycle

Edge support foams

The foams used for our edge support are turned into solid pellets for reduced volume. 100% of this scrap from our New South Wales plant is returned to the supplier for recycling.

Foams

How we recycle

Paper and plastic

At Sealy, we strive to recycle as much of our packaging as possible. Approximately 800 tonnes of paper are recycled in a year, while plastic film is recycled at an estimated 90 tonnes.
