The future ‘Sealy of Australia’ begins trading as Madad, a wholly owned company trading out of Brisbane.
The company originally builds furniture as well as mattresses.
Sealy works with orthopaedic surgeons and develops the first mattress in the industry that focuses on the importance of correct back support.
Madad begins manufacturing the Sealy brand in the 1960s under licence from Sealy Inc. in the USA.
Sealy of Australia launches the first Sealy Posturepedic® range and begins to change the way Australia sleeps.
Sealy Posturepedic® becomes Australia’s #1 selling mattress.
A title still held today.
The Orthopaedic Advisory Board is established in Australia to validate the Posturepedic criteria against modern medical practices.
Sealy Asia Pacific open the largest mattress R&D facility in the Southern Hemisphere.
