Sealy Posturepedic care

Congratulations on your new Sealy product

Investing in a Sealy Posturepedic mattress is an important step in getting a good night’s sleep. Whilst our products come with a 10 year guarantee, there are some things you can do to get the most out of your purchase.

Setting up your new mattress

Register warranty

Registering your warranty is an important step, as it protects your investment. It will fast track any future enquiries you may have with our customer service team.

Air out

Remove the mattress from its packaging and allow it to air out. This helps any new mattress scent to dissipate.

The plastic bag is recyclable and can be disposed of in most regular recycling bins. Please check with your local council for recycling options in your area.

Regularly rotate

Rotate your mattress regularly to ensure an even amount of wear across the sleep surface. Turn the mattress by 180 degrees, but do not flip it over.

  • First 3 months — rotate every 2 weeks
  • Continue to rotate once every 3 months

Your Sealy has a settling period

Your mattress has been designed and built in Australia with all new materials and may take several weeks for the layers to adjust and conform to you. This is completely normal; the mattress will adapt to your shape, weight and sleeping positions as you use it.

Cleaning your mattress

It is important to keep your mattress clean so that it continues to stay fresh and perform as intended. Here are some tips to safely clean and maintain your new Sealy mattress.

Vacuum regularly — you can freshen the fabric or remove dust and debris by using a vacuum on low suction.

Keep your mattress dry — prevent water and other fluids from coming into contact with your mattress. A waterproof cover may be useful for children’s beds.

Treat spills and stains as soon as possible with a damp cloth. Avoid scouring the surface with a brush or saturating the fabric.

Keep out of direct sunlight — if positioned by a window without covers or a mattress protector, the fabric may fade over time.

Avoid dry cleaning chemicals and detergents — these may damage some of the construction materials.

Ensure your Sealy product is exposed to adequate ventilation.

Caring for your Sealy

The importance of a good foundation

When purchasing a new mattress, you may consider replacing your old foundation as well. If it lacks the right support, an old base can make a new mattress feel like it is sagging.

We recommend the use of a Sealy base, as these are designed to work with your mattress for correct support and durability, maximising the performance and lifespan of your mattress.

Please note that if using an adjustable or electric base, only Sealy mattresses with the Flex edge or the Sealy Optimum range are suitable for use.

Caring for your Sealy

Maintaining your current base

Regardless of which kind of bed base you are using, it is important to check regularly that it is in good condition.

Regularly tighten the glides, castors or legs on your base. We suggest doing so approximately every three months.

If your base has slats, check whether they are fixed to the frame to prevent movement. In King and Queen sizes, they should be supported by a centre rail as well. Importantly, slats should be spaced so that the gaps are not wider than the width of the slats themselves.

Frequently asked questions

CAN I USE MY OWN BASE WITH A SEALY MATTRESS?

While you can use your own bed base with a Sealy mattress, it is important to ensure that it has the right support. An unsupportive base can make a mattress feel like it is sagging. Sealy bases are designed to work with your mattress for correct support and durability.

HOW DO I INSTALL THE LEGS OR CASTORS ON MY SEALY BASE?

1. Turn the foundation or base of bed upside down and insert pintle into the hole and turn clockwise. Repeat for all legs.

2. Tighten by hand until legs are firmly in place.

3. Turn foundation back over and re-tighten legs as tightly as possible by hand.

WHAT IS THE WEIGHT CAPACITY OF THE DRAWERS ON MY SPACESAVER BASE?

Sealy SpaceSaver drawer foundations have a maximum capacity of 40kg per drawer.

HOW OFTEN DO I ROTATE MY MATTRESS?

Rotate your Sealy mattress every 2 weeks for the first 3 months when it is new. Continue to rotate it once every 3 months, or with the changing season.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY MATTRESS/PILLOW?

To clean your mattress, you may treat spills and stains with a damp cloth. Avoid scouring the surface with a brush or saturating the fabric, and avoid dry cleaning chemicals or detergents. We have an article on mattress cleaning tips, and another for cleaning your pillow.

HOW DO I SAFELY MOVE MY MATTRESS?

If you need to move your mattress, try to carry it on its side and make sure you have a helper. While it can be gently flexed to fit through doorways, any folding or warping may damage the support system inside. The handles are for positioning the mattress on the base, and should not be used for lifting.
